South Carolinians: H1N1 Vaccine open to all
The Novel H1N1 vaccine was made available to all South Carolinians who want to receive it beginning Dec. 21, 2009.
This means that private providers, pharmacy chains and DHEC clinics will be able to offer the H1N1 shot to all South Carolinians 6 months and older who want to receive the vaccine.
The nasal mist form of vaccine is still available to all healthy, non-pregnant South Carolinians ages 2 to 49.
Like many states, South Carolina experienced limited H1N1 vaccine supply and high demand early in our vaccination campaign. Therefore, we first focused on vaccinating those people in the CDC recommended priority groups.
Now, the supply of both the injectable vaccine and the nasal mist has increased, and we are making all forms of the vaccine more widely available.
We encourage you to get vaccinated now so that your body will have time to build resistance to the H1N1 flu virus as we head into the heart of the flu season this winter.
We are having walk-in clinics at the Anderson County Health Department from 9 am to 4 pm on December 23, 29, 30, and 31. A large clinic is planned for January 6, 2010 at the Anderson Recreation Center from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Please bring your friends and family. There is no charge for the vaccination.
