I didn’t set out to become a tax accountant.
I set out to fix a problem I’d lived through myself… watching good, hardworking people do everything “right” and still feel like they were losing. Good savings rate. Steady job. Still overpaying the IRS every year without knowing it. Still with no real plan for what happens when they can’t work anymore.
That’s not a tax problem. That’s a plan problem.
The philosophy
Here’s what I believe, and I don’t say this lightly: money is a stewardship issue before it’s a math issue.
I’m a Christian, a husband, and a father, and those things shape how I think about every dollar that crosses my desk… mine or my clients’. Generational legacy isn’t a marketing phrase for me. It’s the actual goal. Build something. Steward it well. Leave more than you found.
That’s why I don’t do compliance-only work. Anybody can file your return. I want to know your whole picture… your savings rate, your access to capital, your human life value, your potential longevity. Most people have never heard those terms. Most people should have.
The credentials
22+ years in accounting and personal finance. Licensed Enrolled Agent (EA)… not a CPA, and that’s intentional. EAs are tax accountants federally licensed to represent taxpayers directly before the IRS. It’s a narrower, deeper credential built specifically for tax work, which is exactly the work I do.
I run Nelson360 LLC, operating as Nelson Tax Advisory for tax planning and nelsonHOST for web infrastructure. In 2026 I started building out a fractional CFO practice for owner-operator businesses ready to grow past the ceiling most owner-operators hit around $1M.
Beyond the desk
Family comes first. Amanda, my wife, and our kids are the reason any of this matters.
Beyond that, I lead Troop SC-0076 for Trail Life USA, where I get to watch young men build character the same way I try to build financial plans… one deliberate decision at a time. I serve as Treasurer for the Rotary Club of Anderson, and I serve as Treasurer on the board of New Foundations Home for Children.
Every one of those roles is the same work, really. Show up. Steward what’s been entrusted to you. Build something bigger than yourself.
Good, better, best.
Choose good until you can choose better. Choose better until you can choose best.
That’s the whole philosophy. Let’s go build something.
